| Prague Castle on
Easter Saturday Since most things are closed on Sundays and it would be Easter, and we thought everyone would be at church or with family, we decided to go to Prague on Easter Saturday. Were we wrong! Now we understand -- all of Europe is small, countries are close, anyone can run over to Prague for the holiday weekend, and EVERYONE DID. We decided to take an hour long bus to Prague and spend the day scoping it out, walking, no tours. It began with heavy gray skies, light rain and wind and ended with blue skies AFTER we had taken our castle pictures. Prague Castle looks like a huge church completely surrounded by very tall buildings for walls and towers to make it a "castle". All of the castle grounds and entrance to St. Vitus Church is free, so many come to just look around for the day as we did. For me the best part of Prague was walking across the St. Charles Bridge at sunset, seeing the old statues on the bridge, the water color painters, the boats on the river, and so many people strolling along like in old paintings. We will go back in June on a weekday and see it with blue skies and earlier in the day, but for now, this is our first Czech castle. |
Everyone in Czech, Germany and Europe were on holiday AND in Prague. They even had an Easter tree decorated in front of the Cathedral. |
Changing of the guard is especially ceremonious at noon. Note the blue & white striped guard booths. On left that's me in green among all the black. |
Melted wax painted on hollowed out eggs is a very patient and talented Czech art form. |
You see, I AM in Prague. |
Note the revolving cow at the restaurant. All is not old in Prague. |
Lonnie handed me his camera and asked me to take a picture. Thus I have ONE photo of Lonnie to share finally! |
